A Night with Weatherize DC

By Amber Wason

WeatherizeDC, a campaign launched in September by The DC Project to weatherize 200 homes by March 2010, warmed up to neighbors and volunteers with an “open office” at their downtown (18th and M St) offices Thursday night.

Their mission is to educate and provide resources to community members with regard to making energy-saving improvements to their homes. Homeowners can save money on their monthly energy bills, and have less of an impact on the environment with a 20% or greater decrease in energy consumption. The bigger picture is: make these improvements to the 130 million existing American homes and the impact has the potential to be huge.

In addition to providing a solution to climate change, the organization puts a big emphasis on creating good green jobs.

Their message is simple and effective, and the idea of “change” is evident in the spirit of the group – so it was no surprise to learn that they’re led by a group of former Obama campaign staffers.

At Green DC Realty, we’re excited to work with WeatherizeDC to promote their message and prove that energy efficiency is a desired feature when it comes to real estate. Any cost premium when buying an energy efficient home – or any cost associated with doing the improvements after the purchase – is seen quickly and clearly in monthly utility bills. Just another example of how going green can save you green.

Now we’d love to hear from our readers. Would you pay more for an energy efficient home? What is stopping you from weatherizing your home?! Comment below or email your comments to amber@greenDCrealty.com

Thanks’ for your article, i like the topic very much. Inspire me a lot. Today i want to share my experience about laminate flooring.
Maintain the laminated flooring is easy and simple, you just need this regularly:
    1. a clean sweep is usually
    2. A little warm water sometimes does the trick
    3. When to use the commercial cleaner
    4. Do not soak laminate floors
