“Green” condos come to Petworth

The Solidago

A Petworth Green Condo Development

OK I know everywhere we turn something “Green” is popping up on the DC radar these days.  I was just at a seminar this week where the question was posed what’s the difference between sustainably built and green?  That had me thinking as well since we use everything as though they were interchangeable.  I think we could have a lengthy debate over what the difference is and still not come up with an entirely distinct definition between the two.

From my perspective with having worked in the DC green building arena for past 8 years, I have seen it develop and shape into a variety of perspectives and styles. As a real estate agent and having entered 100′s of homes over the years, sustainably or green built in the DC market place has come to mean superior home energy performance, extensive weatherization as it can be cold here in the Winter and hotter than you can imagine in July. Well appointed natural lighting ( track lighting was the 80′s and recessed the 90′s ) so I think it is time we incorporate some of nature where we livet. Appliances that get the job done and are not something we throw away every 5 years or so. In general green building without getting too esoteric should feel like an extension of who we are and a place that makes us feel comfortable financially and physically.

Now this past week a great new condo project was introduced to the Petworth real estate market by a DC developer True Turtle. From reviewing their web site they have a long list of projects they have worked on over the years, mostly with a “green” building focus in mind.

The project 4114 New Hampshire Ave NW lists 3 separate units each with 2 bedrooms 2 baths ( aside from the ground level unit which has 1 full bath.

The project architect is anticipating LEED Platinum for the project and this would be the 1st of its kind inside the District.

There is an impressive array of “green” features that are part of the development which make this simply an interesting project to check out at some point.

The developer has definitely gone to some extensive lengths here to provide a project which stands above the rest as it takes time and attention to detail to bring a development like this to market.
